Things My Students Say (2)

notebook

You never know what they’ll say!

Despite what you may read on Facebook or on Twitter or what you may hear about in the news, most teachers considers theirs a most rewarding profession.

Just like any other occupation, there are good days, bad days, and days that make you tilt your head and say “What?!”

In this series, I’ll share with you those things that show my students have been paying attention, but perhaps not as keenly as one might hope.

Time for a Throwback Thursday!

Me:

Now, I know we haven’t all been together for lecture in a while; we’ve had labs, a day off, and some of you went out for Mexican (for whatever reason). So, to ease us back into things, here’s a picture of my family all the way back in 1986. If you ever wondered what I looked like as a baby, here’s your chance:

Student Questions:

Which one are you? Are you the one in the red sweater?

No, I was one when this was taken, remember?

Which one is your mom?

Really, you can’t tell which one is my nine-year-old sister and which one is my mom?

Is your dad Amish? Are you Amish?

No, and I know I taught you better history than to ask those questions.

What filter is this? Why is it so grainy?

Technology was different then.

Seriously, though. Why does your family all look alike?

How do I even answer this??

An Important Notice

As a teacher, I’m well aware of the need for my student’s privacy.

As such please be aware that

(a) I have permission to share.

(b) I will not divulge names.

If you know either me or my students in real life, refrain from guessing who said what.

Such comments will be deleted.

(c) I do not intend to belittle, malign, or disparage in any way.

This is intended to be along the lines of the old Art Linkletter program Kids Say the Darndest Things.

[But not the Cosby remake. Nobody wants to be like Cosby these days.]

Don’t forget to follow me on:

Facebook – where I share news stories, articles from other blogs, and various and sundry miscellany that happens to catch my eye. It’s stuff you won’t see here! Well, mostly.

Instagram – where I show you my Life in Motion and share quotes and such. The widget only shows my last three photographs – don’t you want to see them all?

Twitter – where you can see my thoughts in 140 characters or less. Also, funny retweets.

  1. You have been a really cute one 😉

The last question is the best one. I must give credit to your student for not thinking twice about it. Although, that might have been one of those moments in which you aren’t able to find thew forest standing in front of the tree…

Say hi to your students for me and thank them for agreeing to let you share this with us.
