An Old-Fashioned Diet

It’s always a risk to make historical puns; the chances that someone will understand are maybe 50/50 on a good day. Oh well, time to throw caution to the wind.

The prompt for this week is β€˜Homonyms’. This week pick a homonym of your choice and write a limerick which includes 2 or more meanings of the word you picked. [For those of you in doubt, homonyms are words with multiple meanings.]

Now, it’s fall and October, which means we’re gearing toward October 31 . . . Reformation Day! That’s right, it’s the big 499 (I’m planning something big for next year) of Martin Luther posting the 95 Theses in Wittenberg, Germany.

An Old-Fashioned Diet

Said Leo to Luther: “I’ve a Diet;

I insist: you really must try it!”

When to Worms Luther went,

his patience was spent,

for it wasn’t thatΒ kind of a diet.

OK, so this relies on knowing a few things, like:

Leo X: Pope of the Roman Catholic Church

Diet: an old term for a meeting of Church councillors

Worms: the city where Luther was put on trial for heresy

diet: a regimented eating plan

Did you get it? I hope you did. I hope you enjoyed my historical limerick. I had fun writing it πŸ™‚
