Come on in and sit a spell. Let’s talk about the week of a hot cup of coffee.
Sunday, Krystal sent me this comic from Strange Planet. Indeed, it’s me:
Monday looked like this:
That’s linguini with walnuts and orange, and it tasted good, but I used too much red pepper. We like heat and spice, but red pepper – the crushed and dried kind – proves problematic for us. I almost have to cut the amount in half or less for it to work for our palette.
Tuesday I found out Netflix will be producing a series based on Neil Gaiman’s Sandman.
I also got a great deal on a new pair of running shoes. My running shoes are beginning to look kinda rough after two years. So I’ve been on the lookout for a sale.
Our local branch of a large retailer was having a sale, but when I went to the store (A) they didn’t have my size and (B) the sale was online only.
I decided to buy the shoes online because *sale* and free shipping to store. Except I didn’t pick “ship to store”, I clicked “pick up at store” (which, remember, the store was out of my size).
So, several hours later, I got a call from the manager, apologizing they didn’t have my size. They did, however, have my size in the next shoe model up, ($20ish more expensive) which they’d be happy to sell me for my quoted online price.
And that’s how I got these shoes for 42.85% off.
Wednesday I planned meals for the next couple days and cooked “Thai One Pot” which was really, really good. Krystal says it’s a keeper.
Thursday was the Fourth of July, which meant it was one of four days a year I shave completely and help out at Tryon Palace. Behold the transformation:
There was more excitement than expected as a house next to the Palace caught fire!
That night I went to a cookout and made friends with the cat, named Fermata.
Last night we had a date night. I made pizza. Homemade pizza sauce swirled with a homemade barbecue sauce topped with bacon, pineapple, mozzarella, and Gorgonzola. It was delicious!
Yesterday I also made a discovery. For over a year we’ve been complaining about our apartment’s terrible lighting. Yesterday, during a sudden summer storm, the light in our bedroom blew out. When I went to replace it, I realized that whoever changed the bulbs last put in bulbs with half the wattage the light can handle. Putting in the correct wattage bulbs has been an illuminating experience.
Here’s how the exercising went this week:
What have you been up to??
