Pain Pain Go Away

It Sunday and it’s rainy and a hurricane is headed toward us this next week or so and it’s one of the handful of days a year that my back injury has laid me out. I’ve got my medication and heating pad and Monty Python on the television.

This week was good but busy. I made it through the work week with extra sugar and caffeine: Reese’s peanut butter pumpkins and bottles of Baja Blast Mountain Dew.

Also with the help of a coworker, my headlights got replaced. And by “help”, I mean that I watched while he did it. I did feel better when he said the engineering was poorly done in this regard and that most people probably wouldn’t feel comfortable trying to replace them on their own.

It was also my five year anniversary at work! I was recognized at a company-wide meeting with my name in a program, a certificate and a pin, and my surname mispronounced in front of everyone . . .

well damn as I was typing that a transformer blew nearby and we’ve lost power. I called our outage reporting hotline and they’ve dispatched a crew. Fun times (not really).

Anyway, my last name isn’t that hard. Kids learn its syllables in most American schools by the time they reach first grade. I don’t know why folks complicate it, but I haven’t had an employer pronounce my last name correctly since 2004 or so.

I found it ironic that after the meeting, I returned to my desk to find correspondence from a town settled and named for my family.

Of course the other big news this week was Taylor Swift announcing her new album, Life of a Showgirl, to be released October 3.

I wore orange in celebration, orange and mint green being the color scheme of the album.

October 3 is also the first night of our final weekend of The Laramie Project, which is coming along quite well.

And that about wraps it up. Sorry it’s so short, but I’m really not doing well today, and would like to attempt to recover before work tomorrow.

How have you been doing?
