Facebook – where I share news stories, articles from other blogs, and various and sundry miscellany that happens to catch my eye. It’s stuff you won’t see here! Well, mostly.

Instagram – where I show you my Life in Motion and share quotes and such. The widget only shows my last three photographs – don’t you want to see them all?

Blogging 201: Auditing

Today I’m supposed to audit my brand.

Do I even have a brand?

Is Running In My Head a brand?

Do you have certain associations with the name?

I don’t like auditing; I don’t like criticism.

Who does?

That said, I think I’ve been auditing “my brand” for some time.

Tweaking the background and widgets

Promoting my other social media.

What do you think?

Is there anything you think I could do differently or better?

Are you following me on Facebook or Twitter?

If not, why not?

Is it because you didn’t know I had those?

Is is because you find those sites uninteresting?

Is it because you don’t like me?

You know what they say about another pair of eyes . . .

Teaser Tuesday: Last Will

In between baking pies, preparing for my parent’s visit, and other various projects, I almost failed to notice that the wheel of time turned once again to

Teaser TuesdayJust in case you don’t know, Teaser Tuesday is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by A Daily Rhythm. Anyone can play along! All you have to do is grab the book you’re currently reading, open to a random page and share a few sentences from that page. But make sure you don’t share any spoilers!*

*I wish I could take credit for this introduction, but I shamelessly stole it from Heather over at bitsnbooks. To help me make amends, you should go check out her blog.

This week I’m reading Last Will by Bryn Greenwood.

I won this book some time ago on the author’s blog.

In fact, it’s an autographed copy!

Autographed Copy of Last Will

However, I never got around to reading it . . . until now.

The Truly Random Number Generator sends us to page 140:

I think Meda was just pretending to be mad about
the picture of Ray Brueggeman, but when she
came to the study later in the afternoon, she was
definitely angry. She came in without knocking
and stood at the corner of my desk until I told
Celeste to leave.

In Retrospect

I’m reading still reading The Casual Vacancy by J.K Rowling, so no rating or review yet.

Check back next week.

Setting Goals for Blogging U.

Over the next few weeks I’ll be participating in WordPress’ Blogging 201.

In addition to my normal posts, you’ll most likely see a few “extra” posts related to course assignments.

This is the first of those posts.

They say sharing your goals with others helps you achieve them.

By the end of the course I hope to

1. Grow a more connected audience. By that I mean I don’t just want more followers or likes – although to be honest, those are nice. I want to have more people commentating and contributing to a conversation.

2. Grow my social media following. Although I have a Facebook page for my site and encourage others to follow me on Instagram / Twitter, not many do.

3. Finish developing features for each day of the week. Having such a schedule will allow me to work ahead on my posts, make my blog appealing to a wider audience, and may help others develop their own blog.

In my wildest dreams, I would have between twenty and fifty consistent readers who comment on my work and share it with others via their own blogs or other social media.

Thanks for the understanding.

Monday Morning Grievances

It’s Monday and I haven’t had my coffee.

Monday Morning Grievances Logo 1

Specifically, I dislike:

1. End-User License Agreements

Seriously, does anyone even read those things?

2. Overuse of Exclamation Points

I’m looking at you Harriet Beecher Stowe.

Uncle Tom’s Cabin serves as a warning to us all.

3. Use of the word literally instead of figuratively.

Need I say more?

What are your grievances?

Sunday Snapshots

Food & Drink featured prominently this week:

IMG_3527I’ll try anything once; even chocolate-covered maple smoke bacon soda.

Yes, you read that sentence correctly.

First Impression: It’s not that bad.

Second Impression: Just a tad sweet . . .

Third Impression: I’m drinking carbonated chocolate syrup.

Fourth Impression: Oh dear Lord, that aftertaste!

Final Impression: This is vile; the bottlers should be charged with crimes against humanity.

A former student now living in Maine brought me a 12-pack of Moxie!

With patience, I can make this last for six months.

For the record, I still have 3 of the bottles I received on July 4.

Slice of Apple Pie

I baked three apple pies this week.

My apple corer/peeler/slicer no longer cores or slices.

Sadness.

My mother called to confirm I’d bake one for her and Dad when they visit.

I’d count that as a success.

ChipotleI went to Chipotle for the second time in my life.

I don’t normally photograph my meals, but this one just looked so good on the tray.

Mine is the one on the right.

I ordered the steak bowl with black beans, vegetables, mild salsa, sour cream, and cheese.

I’m not a fan of guacamole.

I like avocado and mayonnaise on their own.

Together, not so much.

I walked downtown

By now you know I took pictures of bricks:

Of course, I also made time for books:

Casual Vacancy NotesI found this relationship schematic in the front of A Casual Vacancy. I’m sure it will make sense at some point, but I’m more concerned with the fact this was written in a library book.

Package from England (Blink of the Screen)Another package came this week!

Royal Mail and USPS delivered my copy of A Blink of the Screen by Terry Pratchett.

My TBR continues to grow.

Not that that’s a bad thing, mind you . . .

Also, I finally caught up with my Reading Challenge!

Goodreads Challenge

It feels good to be back on track.

Except – as of today – I’m already behind again.

I’ll make it up this week.

Maybe.

Probably not.
