Lumberjack Day! Channel your inner Paul Bunyan — grab your axe, chop some wood, and maybe sing a song while you’re at it. Whether in traditional plaid flannel or something hi-vis and reinforced with Kevlar, let’s celebrate those who keep the woodpiles piled!
Festival of Latest Novelties
Festival of Lastest Novelties – Put on a helicopter beanie and Groucho glasses; settle into an inflatable chair, taking a pull on your bubble pipe; let Big Mouth Billy Bass serenade you questioning a magic 8-ball about your pet rock – but don’t let chattering teeth get stuck in the silly putty!
What’s your latest novelty?
Za’atar Day
Since 2019, September 23rd is Za’atar Day. Za’atar is a blend used in Middle East cuisine containing herbs like thyme, oregano, & marjoram along with other spices including sesame, sumac, & cumin or coriander. Za’atar also happens to be the name of my Paladin’s camel mount in our legacy D&D game!
Finally, Fall
First Day of Autumn, Autumnal Equinox, Mabon, or even Hobbit Day – whatever you call it, today marks the first day of the best season of the year. May it be a blessed one for everyone! I’m planning to make some baked apples and enjoy some spiced cider to get into the spirit – how about you?
Gratitude Day
Today is Gratitude Day. What are you grateful for? I’ll start with three Ps:
Pizza
Pusheen
Pratchett, Terry
Day’s Bakery; Bakery Day
It’s bakery day and I’m fondly thinking of Day’s Bakery, the local bakery in my hometown: the donuts and the sugar cookies with thick, colored frosting and candy eyes and the autumn smells of gingerbread and Lebkuchen – oh the Lebkuchen, how I miss it. Time now means the bakery is but a memory . . .
Image: exterior of Day’s Bakery in Honesdale, PA. A white-sided building with a bay window displaying baked goods. An American flag, and a neon “open” sign. An overhang from which hangs a blue-and-white store sign reading “DAY’S BAKERY” and several lights are visible over the concrete steps and white door, which is in turn surrounded by a bluish decorative woodwork. A chalkboard-like sign displaying the store hours is the the left of the door.
