Teaser Tuesday: Eats, Shoots & Leaves

Like a coconut cake in a rotating cake stand, the Wheel of Time has turned to Teaser Tuesday.

Just in case you don’t know, Teaser Tuesday is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by Books and a Beat. Anyone can play along! All you have to do is grab the book you’re currently reading, open to a random page and share a few sentences from that page. But make sure you don’t share any spoilers!*

This week, my current read is Eats, Shoots & Leaves: The Zero Tolerance Approach to Punctuation by Lynne Truss. I’m not sure what brought this book on my radar, but I found myself checking it out of the library last Tuesday. I must admit, I can be a bit of punctuation freak. This book is probably right up my alley.

Fun fact: my favorite mark of punctuation is the ampersand.

The Truly Random Number Generator sends us to page 204:

Like the exclamation mark, however, italics should be used sparingly for the purposes of emphasis - partly because they are a confession of stylistic failure, and partly because readers glancing at a page of type might unconsciously clock the italicized bit before starting their proper work of beginning in the top left-hand corner. 

 

In Retrospect:

Beautiful Creatures

A decent enough story with a unique mythology strangely lacking in actual substance, similar to eating a bag of potato chips.

But like potato chips, you can’t eat just one, and so I’ll be reading the rest of the series.
