Saturday Morning Coffee: 7.22.23

Let’s sit down for a chat about the week that was.

Some people might say it’s too hot for coffee. I say that’s balderdash. The AC is as low as I’m willing to set it, and between the box fan and the oscillating fan there’s a good cross-breeze. The coffee is hot, but I’ll make you something else if you want.

Let’s see. This week we had a movie night and watched Nimona on Netflix. We had snacks and hotdogs and then we played the Game of Life: Jurassic Park Edition. It was fun, if a little simplified from the original.

I dog-sat two good puppers:

Our Cyberpunk: Red game started up again after a brief hiatus. My Rockerboy PC used their increases notoriety and reputation (9!) from the fallout of detonating a cocaine bomb in Night City to release their first album. Two hours later it was already a worldwide release. We’ll have to check on its success in a future game.

I was scrolling Facebook and found one of those picture groups where you choose pictures based on your star chart and I liked the outcome of this one:

A big thing this week was something that happened at work. I answered the phone and a woman was calling for assistance in helping her stepson get enrolled in college. She had questions about the application process and establishing residency and ADA accommodations. I gave all the information I could and then talked about our Open House happening that night. She said she had made plans to attend, asked for my name, and would see me there.

I’ve heard such things before, but then about an hour into the event I saw my Dean walking towards our table with someone I did not recognize. It was the woman, who did not have the situation she described but was conducting research for a dissertation. She told us that we had set the bar for providing information while also being kind, patient, and understanding.

And she left me with this card:

Yesterday I did grocery shopping and made brownies, but didn’t fall asleep last night until after 4:00 am this morning. Today is going to require lots of caffeine.
