The calendar says summer begins on June 20; society says summer starts with Memorial Day; my work says summer starts tomorrow. That’s when our summer hours begin. But before we get to that, let’s look back at the week that was.
This week was the college’s commencement ceremony, so many of my waking hours were spend either in preparation for that event or worrying that something (the weather) would interfere. It’s typically held outdoors, and outdoor events come with inherent uncertainties, and then someone said out loud that commencement hadn’t been rained out in fifteen years. I knocked on wood every day this last week, I can tell you that.
Tuesday was Concert Day and I asked folks to tell me their favorite concerts. A few of the answers were
- Taylor Swift
- Aerosmith
- Third Day
- Santana
- Eric Clapton
- Guns and Roses
- Kansas
- Styx
- Steve Miller
- U2
- Crowder
- King’s X
- Will Hoge
Folks wished they could’ve seen:
- Kenny Rogers
- Johnny Cash
- Queen
- Nirvana
- Stone Temple Pilots
- Metallica
- Foo Fighters
- Powerwolf
- Heilung
- Nightwish
- Fleshgod Alocalypse
And in the “hope to see some day” camp were:
- My Chemical Romance
- Rolling Stones
- Crowded House
Finally, there were some answers I was unclear where they’d fall on the lists:
- Fat Freddy’s Drop
- Woodkid
- Lemon and Herb
- Hans Zimmer
- Hidden Orchestra
- Meute
Here some pictures from this week; let’s see if they’ll remind me what I did.

Ok, so at work someone found tiny clip on graduation caps and I wore one three days out of the week but only took pictures on two of those days. One picture is with me and my favorite statue on campus: a rabbit named Chauncey.
On one of my walks around campus I saw a mushroom and took a picture before the grounds crew removed it.
I got a Coke at McDonalds for Coke Day but didn’t get a cupcake for cupcake day. Ah well; such is life.
Commencement Day came and the weather that had threatened to rain held off until the evening- meaning we didn’t get to see any of the aurora borealis many of our geographic neighbors saw. Missing out somewhat saddened me. I shouldn’t feel selfish or that I missed out, but . . . well, it kinda does.
D&D was postponed on Friday, so for now Rustle the Kenku monk is still spending the night at the Sliver Coin. I ended up talking with a friend for a couple hours just about life in general and then spent some time in self-reflection sitting in the dark eating apple pie and drinking whiskey, watching Thirteen Ghosts of Scooby Doo while outside the thunder rolled and rain fell in chaotic cacophony . . .
Saturday I woke up feeling like I’d run a marathon the day before. And maybe I had. After commencement was done I ended up taking Krystal to the doctor as she’s now in week four of a migraine that ebbs and flows but hasn’t really gone away. New medication samples and a consultation with a neurologist and plans for an MRI are now on the books . . .
I had plans to meet up with a friend Saturday night but those plans were also postponed to next month, which meant that when an acquaintance asked if I was interested in attending their costume birthday party I was available. I went and stayed a respectable amount of time and saw Hades, Ken and Barbie, Triton and Ariel, a professor, someone that looked like Sailor Jupiter but was from a different anime, Cinderella, and a few others I didn’t quite recognize. I went as a fae creature and my eyeshadow turned out a bit darker than I’d liked so I decided it was “Welcome to the Fae Parade” or something like that.
Today is Mother’s Day (and Mothra’s Day) and I’ve got a simmer pot going and lit a candle for anyone who might need it.
Tomorrow starts summer hours at work: longer days M-Th but with Fridays off. I would rather have one schedule and stick to it; both my brain and body like routine. I’ll have to remind myself that I really do need to leave the house early tomorrow . . .
What have you been up to?
