Takin it Slow on a Sunday Afternoon

The days grow longer and warmer but inside we’ve got the blackout shades drawn and the AC on so draw up a chair and I’ll pour us a refreshing beverage. Let’s chat about the week that was.

Monday was Memorial Day and I spent it doing some cleaning around the house and some loads of laundry and enjoying some Pimm’s Cup, and as I was rocking out to My Chemical Romance’s The Black Parade I got a phone call. Normally I don’t answer phone calls from numbers I don’t recognize, but this time I did – or rather, I tried but didn’t get it in time. I thought the number looked familiar so I called it back. It was the director of Twelfth Night, and she wanted to offer me the role of Fabian! I said yes and then immediately texted Krystal and my close friends Jax and Ciarán (who, incidentally are also producing a show of Twelfth Night, except theirs is in Connecticut).

Now was it a coincidence that Fabian means “one who grows beans” and I was making a pot of baked beans the day I auditioned? Absolutely, but it’s still a good story.

Monday was also Vincent Price’s birthday, so I spent the holiday evening watching The Thirteen Ghosts of Scooby Doo while eating Twix minis. I also watched Godzilla vs Kong. For the record, my money is always on Kong. And yes, I know that Godzilla Minus One is now on Netflix, but I haven’t had a chance to watch it yet. Maybe this coming week.

Tuesday was International Burger Day, but I didn’t make any hamburgers as Krystal wasn’t in a burger mood. Instead, I got her chicken strips and I picked up a drive thru hamburger with bacon and cheese and onions.

Wednesday was paperclip day, and while I sent the now-defunct Microsoft Clippy some love, not everyone shared my nostalgic sentiments. One friend remarked:

I was old enough to be an expert level MS Office user when it came out, and was so intrusive initially that it was hard NOT to hate it!

I suppose that’s fair.

Wednesday was D&D night, which is still new after being on Fridays for so long, and while I’ve already typed up the notes (which I’d still love if you read along) I want to share with you here that the paladins in our party both cast “find steed” for the first time last session. Ama got a majestic elk (very cool indeed) and Kai (me) got a CAMEL and I named her Za’atar (or Za for short) and she is a wonderful creature and I’ve only had her a few hours in game and I would DIE FOR HER 😭

Now I am a fire genasi with a camel and that makes me soooo happy. Originally the DM gave me a warhorse, but l asked if we could change it because while Paladin Kai likes horses, I do not care for them. AND I GOT A CAMEL SHE IS PERFECTION.

am I looking at armor for her?

you betcha.

is it super expensive?

you betcha.

Not gonna lie, I woke up Thursday and thought “I’ve got a camel!” and got super excited all over again, especially when I realized I can call her “ ‘Za ” for short (because Names are Important) and it would still be food related. I also found out some cultures have flying camels in their mythology like a Pegasus SO YOU KNOW I’M ALREADY PLANNING AHEAD FOR HER TO LEVEL UP INTO MY GREATER STEED.

Can you tell I’m excited?

Thursday evening was our first read-through for Twelfth Night and everyone else is so good and hilarious I feel out of my depth but the casting is spot on so I’ll trust that includes me, too.

I woke up Friday to a sore throat and headache and sinus/nasal drainage. I went to the store for some over the counter medication and spent all day Friday and most of the day Saturday sleeping and taking medication. I’m feeling better than I was before but sad it took most of my weekend to get to that point.

It’s also the start of Pride Month in the United States and I might have some things to say about that but I’ve just taken more medicine and feeling kinda tired again so I’m putting the recliner in the recline position with a glass of non-alcoholic Arnold Palmer and some peanut butter filled pretzels.

What have you been up to?

  1. grats on getting the part…somehow I think it is just perfect for you. I spent the week waiting on biopsy results (and yes I do have cancer..big whoop de doo…getting ready to hit a faorite campsite so my sister and I can spread hubby’s ashes per his wishes…it hopefully will bring some closure for us. made a cake, and ate it for breakfast and lunch before I sent the rest home with a neighbor. I figure it is food and I needed to eat…..i know I know….cake is NOT the healthiest of foods but it had chocolate and that my friend is the nectar of the gods. that’s about it.

  2. That hamburger looks really good.

I remember being annoyed by Clippy because I am easily distracted by even my own thoughts, but now that it’s gone…I dunno, I get sentimental bout that old stuff haha, kind of miss him.

I bet you’ll do great in Twelfth Night. Allbest! (does it really mean ‘one who grows beans’??
