It’s like a hundred ninety-nine degrees

Good evening, Friends! It is hot and humid and I have just returned from meeting a friend for food, and now as storms approach I’ve taken some painkillers, consumed a stroopwafel, and am working on an evening coffee. Feel free to find a seat and let’s chat about last week.

Monday was national fairy day, and I asked my followers how many would go into a fairy ring should they find one. My quite informal survey indicated that 25% of my friends either lack curiosity or that 75% of my friends think things couldn’t be worse in fairyland than here. Personally, I’m Team Fairy Ring.

At work, I had a visitor for the day, one Coraline Jones:

On Tuesday we started seeing the “stir” that David Tennant caused by the simple act of speaking up for trans individuals. My wife loves Tennant and she’s been able to get many phot ops at conventions over the years. I have just now realized the one photo I know I am in, I’m in cosplay as Petronella Osgood, and the joy it brings me to know Tennant, as an individual, thinks the world is better for me being in it? Tears.

I didn’t do much Tuesday night as I had a sinus headache and went to bed early, but not before trying a new flavor of Mountain Dew soda recommended by my sister-in-law. This was called Freedom Fusion and claimed to be a mix of lemon and peach flavors.

It was good, but I think the flavors were a little too balanced. Was it peach flavored lemonade or lemon flavored peachade? I have no idea. It was good, but it could have been better.

Wednesday was interesting. You’d think there’d be nothing controversial about barcode day; you would be wrong. Facebook decided my post-of-the-day went against their community guidelines for trying to “get likes, follows, shares or videos in a misleading way”!!

So I made a new image and tried again and this time the post stayed up:

Wednesday was a rehearsal night and then D&D! I haven’t typed up our session notes yet (I apologize for being behind on that) but here’s the short version:

  • Strahd came looking for Ireena, the current vessel of the soul of Strahd’s obsession, Tatyana
  • Katarzyna turned Ireena invisible
  • Ireena attacked Strahd, stabbing him in the back with a stake
  • Kai (my PC) pulled the stake out of Strahd’s back
  • Strahd bit Ireena and she became spawn, which shouldn’t have happened
  • It came to light that Ireena used a Moon Card (granting at least one perfect wish) to send Titania’s soul elsewhere
  • The soul settled on Ama, our Oathbreaker Paladin.

On Thursday, I got my long-awaited new work chair:

And then that night my newest Pusheen plush arrived. Isn’t she cute??

On Friday I visited with friends. They have a larger place and many cats. This was my first visit though I’ve know them for years. Cats that “never come out when strangers are here” came out and demanded I observe them; one even ran up for pats and scritches.

Outside, they had geese with whom I made an uneasy alliance along the lines of “if you respect my space I will respect yours”

That was exactly what I needed that day, and if my superpower is Cat Calmer, I’ll gladly embrace it. It’s not universal, but it happens more often than not, and sometimes I’m convinced I could make friends with one of the Big Cats, though I know I am more than likely to become their prey.

Anyway, the cat above is named Witch Hazel, and she is available for adoption from a sanctuary near me. She is very, very personable, indeed.

Saturday I rolled out of bed and went to rehearsal. Trust me when I say that Act 3 Scene 4 of Twelfth Night is long and perhaps just maybe the Bard of Avon could have used an editor.

That might I made creamy baked orzo with goat cheese; I apologize for not having a picture. I timed it just right to come out of the oven just as Krystal came in the door and it was soon devoured. In exchange, here’s a picture of me with bed head:

Today we drove about an hour (listening to Chappell Roan Radio on Spotify on the way) to meet a friend who’s moving out of state pretty soon. We left early to go to the mall where I found, of all things, graffiti advertising Mystery Science Theater 3000:

We met up at a nice little local place where we had good food and great conversation and even had tiramisu for dessert. I ordered the noodle bowl and it was delicious:

Then Krystal and I went to Michael’s craft store to check out their Halloween decor. We also had fun in one of the clearance aisles:

Storms were predicted and it even started raining while we were inside, so we left and headed for home and didn’t have any rain as we drove. But my back tells me where in for more. And that has now brought us full circle back to the introductory paragraph.

What have you been up to?
