Silly Goose?

It’s Sunday, which means i’ts time for an update. I have a headache but I’m okay if you still want to come in for a chat- by now you know where the glasses and mugs are; help yourself to a drink if you’d like.

Last Sunday after posting my weekly blog I settled in to watch Constantine and the power went out, and that was sad. I plugged my phone into an external battery, turned on Mystery Science Theater 3000 on Tubi, and went to sleep. The power came on sometime in the night and I had to reset my clocks. Good thing I had practice the day before!

My Long Spooky Weekend wrapped up nicely on Monday. The morning was the kind of dreary drizzly grey that called for staying in bed with blankets and maybe a warm cup of coffee or tea or cocoa – and thanks to Past Me, I was able to do just that.

It brightened up later in the day, and that was okay, too. That night I made salmon and Brussels sprouts and enjoyed a piece of pumpkin pie.

The workweek went okay – it was quite busy as I returned to find myself added to five or six meetings all on Tuesday. I felt a little bad about being out for two days only to return and be out of the office for 7 of the 9 hours in our workday, but my teammates were really great about it. And no, the meetings could not have been emails. They were meetings that actually did need to happen, and were better for happening in person.

Wednesday we didn’t have D&D as too many people weren’t able to make it for one reason or other, but those that could still logged on and we had a few social hours just talking, and that was good too. Looking though my photos, I see that I stopped to talk to some geese. I often talk to the geese out loud, and I wonder if anyone ever hears me, and if they do, I wonder what they think.

I should say that I don’t necessarily care what they think, in that they won’t dissuade me from continuing to talk to the geese out loud, but I do wonder what they think, if they think of anything at all.

Wednesday night was also the Super Beaver Moon, and I hate the fact that I can’t get a good photo of the moon. Here’s a photo I took compared with someone who actually has the equipment and location to take a decent picture:

That said, on Friday morning there was the kind of moon that stayed in the sky even as the sun rose, and I’d like to think I got an okay picture that morning.

Yesterday I went thrift shopping and found a bunch of DVDs, including Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves, Monty Python Live!, San Andreas, Poseidon, Into the Storm, In the Heart of the Sea, and The Perfect Storm, and then another variety pack of horror movies including titles like Kraken and The Howling, but that case is upstairs for Krystal and I don’t know the other two movies.

I’m reminded that Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson is miscast as a serious action/adventure actor. He’s fantastic in humorous roles (like the Jumanji reboot and Jungle Cruise)

For supper I made cabbage and kielbasa in the crock pot, and it turned out the best I’ve ever made. Unfortunately, I messed up any leftovers there might have been. I was so excited to watch Frankenstein with Krystal that I didn’t unplug the crock pot like I usually do and tried to turn it off with the buttons and instead of turning it off, I turned it on High for another 3 hours when it had already been on Low for 7 hours previously.

Ah well.

The movie was perfection, a true delight – up until the last frame of the movie – which ended with a quote from Lord Byron – BYRON, OF ALL PEOPLE! At least I guess they were friends? But I can’t understand ending the movie that way. It would be like ending a Shakespeare adaptation with a quote from Christopher Marlowe. It’s saying “here’s a two and a half hour adaptation of a work that defined – some say created – the modern science fiction genre. It was written by a woman, Mary Shelley. Let’s end it with a quote from one of her friends, Lord Byron – a man.”

At least they didn’t end it with a quote from PERCY – though there was an allusion to him within the movie itself. Which, given the context of the scene, made a kind of sense.

When the movie was done we watched the first two episodes of Welcome to Derry, which I found unsettling in the kind of way that good horror is supposed to be. The third episode comes out tonight.

Supper tonight will be hamburgers and fries, but I haven’t decided what kind of burgers to make just yet.

And now my eyes are starting to hurt again so I best call it quits for now, but what about you?

What have you been up to?

  1. As someone who has also burned a dish to a char due to a CrockPot error, solidarity, my friend.

Also… I’m glad I’m not the only one who didn’t walk away from GDT’s “Frankenstein” adaptation raving about it. No issues with having another adaptation out there, but this done didn’t resonate with me. I guess his tweaks to the plot and the characterizations and on and on didn’t really align with what I feel Mary Shelley’s work does so amazingly. But hey, to each their own.
