In this case, the website and reality are two different things.
It’s Monday & I haven’t had my coffee.
A few weeks ago I was given an almost-new mattress.
Good timing, as my old mattress celebrated over 7 years of use.
How did it happen? My sister-in-law bought a bedroom suite and couldn’t use the mattress; however, we could.
So we moved the new mattress in and the old mattress went to live in Spare Oom (as we call our spare room) until such time as I could figure out what to do with it.
Our city’s Trash & Recycling Pickup Information website promised the following:
Bulk Waste Collection
Acceptable: For appliances (such as freezers, refrigerators, washers, dryers, and/or water heaters): remove doors to appliances or place in a manner that ensures there is no access by animals or small children. Furniture such as sofas, tables, mattresses, small appliances (microwaves, toasters, & vacuums), paint cans that are dry and have lids removed, wood, tires that have been separated from the rim.
*Place bulk waste in a neat pile away from guide wires, trees, fences and power and utility sources. Bulk waste should be put out for collection no later than 6:00 AM on your scheduled pickup day.
So, I dutifully hauled that mattress out to the curb Sunday night.
Two weeks ago.
My neighbors’ small appliances & several broken chairs have been out for just as long.
I’ve called the city – apparently to no avail.
I’d burn it if I had a place to do so.
OK, it looks like there’s nothing really humorous about this. I apologize.
Two weeks? That is flame worthy. Too bad you can’t convince some small kids it would work as a trampoline – in their yard!

My neighbors tried it today for a few hops; no go.
