It’s Sunday Morning, and that can only mean one thing: last night, I made and ate a hamburger. Specifically, a burger featured on the hit series Bob’s Burgers.
The Final Kraut Down Burger [S2:E7 “Moodie Foodie”]
About the Episode – A food critic famous for running restaurants out of business is making the rounds. When the kids try to “help” Bob, things don’t go as planned and the review claims Bob’s burgers are “dry and overdone”. Bob goes on a crusade to clear his name, restore his burgers’ reputation, and save the restaurant.
About the Burger– This Swiss cheese cheeseburger was topped with a warm Bavarian-style sauerkraut mixed with a caramelized sweet onion and a smear of German-style brown mustard on the bun. For those wondering, Bavarian-style sauerkraut is slightly sweeter than barrel-style sauerkraut, and warming it with the sweet onion really cut down on the tang. Tang was there, but it wasn’t overpowering.
The Response
This was the first of Bob’s burgers that I made for someone else. Krystal (a) doesn’t like sauerkraut and (b) was out of town, so to pay back Uncle Jason for helping me fix my A/C the other week, I cooked supper for him and my cousin Alex.
Uncle Jason liked the burger, though he was surprised that it wasn’t tangy. He both likes and expected tang, but said
The more I ate, the better it tasted. Will I have a second? Absolutely.
Alex didn’t like the sauerkraut, so I made him a regular Swiss cheese cheeseburger. He said it was a bit juicier than he’s used to, but better juicy than dry.
I liked the burger better than I thought, and I like sauerkraut when the mood strikes.
As this was the first time I’ve made burgers for more than two people, I had a slight problem getting my portions rights and made the burgers slightly larger than needed. It was a struggle eating both of them.
Overall, we gave this burger
4 Stars
Come back next week, when we’ll try a new, as-yet-to-be-determined burger!
