Pull up a chair and have a seat while I pour some cool drinks and let’s chat.
You might recall that last week I talked about the severe weather and tornado warnings we had. This week kicked off with more severe weather, such that in anticipation of high winds and tornado-spawning storms our school districts canceled classes for the day, which also meant that I had the day off of work. While we did have high winds and storms, we did not get the hail and tornadoes. I will admit to being slightly disappointed that we had a day off of work for “nothing“ but at the same time grateful that nothing happened.
Earlier on Monday, Krystal and I did some shopping and anticipation of being stuck at home for most of the day and we went to a bookstore and I picked up two books that looked interesting from the discount section. One was Black River Orchard by Chuck Wendig, and the other was The Ballad of Perilous Graves by Alex Jennings.

As of right now, I’ve only read The Ballad of Perilous Graves, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I will say that I was slightly concerned by some of the Goodreads reviews that said that they couldn’t get into the dialogue or that there were too many points of view or that the narrative was convoluted or confusing – some even called it boring.
I should have realized that the folks that left these kinds of reviews are probably a certain kind of person in real life as well and not just online. They are the kind of folks that insist on one correct way of speaking English, and I’m not quite sure what they meant by multiple points of view. I think I counted maybe three different changes in points of view throughout the whole book, which you know it isn’t a lot, especially if some of these same people have ever read something like oh I don’t know Game of Thrones? And then as for the plot or the narrative being convoluted or confusing, I’m sorry, but it was very much like reading like reading jazz if jazz were put into book form, if that makes sense. Yeah it was like the best thing – I won’t say it’s the best thing I’ve ever read, but it was a very good book.
It was . . . it was . . . it was like I could not put it down. I read the whole thing in one day. I even stayed up late to finish it and it was really good.
Every time I try to sit down and write a review, my mind goes blank because how do you put something that your brain can see all the connections with it and how it all flows and how it was like reading music but then you go to type it out and it’s like brain mush? Anyway, if you like New Orleans and jazz and the supernatural, you should read The Ballad of Perilous Graves.
Then on Tuesday, my father-in-law had a fall which resulted in him being shuttled back-and-forth between various hospitals and medical centers, one of which was about three hours away. He ended up with 51 stitches, but as of right now no surgery, so that’s good. I was responsible (kind of) for helping take care of folks’ dogs as they were out at the various hospitals, so I was driving between their houses, and while I certainly wasn’t one of the folks that were awake all day or all night or any of that it all did catch up with me on Wednesday when my brain just said “you are tired” and shut down and ended I up sleeping a long time on Wednesday into Thursday.

This week also saw the Spring Equinox, which I guess means that it is technically Spring, and yet thanks to different warm fronts we are experiencing record high temperatures.
I think today it’s supposed to get up to like 85 or 89 where we’re at, and then tomorrow it’s going to drop down to mid 60s, so Istill haven’t put in a maintenance request for our AC because looking at the weather for the next week it’s supposed to be in the 50s and 60s and we won’t need to turn on the AC just yet, so that’s what’s going on there.
I did decide to do a bit of baking, and I made some lemon bars which turned out really good. Some of my friends even asked for the recipe! Krystal hasn’t commented on them because she does not like lemons and I knew that when I made it, but I really wanted to make some kind of lemony dessert and I think it worked out really well, especially with the lavender infused honey that I made and use in my tea most days.

Last night, we went to a local emo night, where in true emo fashion, the last half hour saw the band “sell out” as an influx of preppies pushed out the scene crowd that’d been there for almost 2 hours, and the music changed from pop, punk, and emo to popular songs of the 70s and 80s. It was good to see friends and enjoy a good couple of hours, even if the ending left much to be desired.
And that brings us to today, which even though the temperature is rising, it actually doesn’t feel that hot, so I’ve got a load of laundry that’s going and as that’s going I’m sitting outside just enjoying being out in the fresh air. I’ve found some shade and got a nice cross breeze and a bottle of water so things are going good.

It won’t be like the other week when I was in the middle of therapy and my phone decided to turn off because it got too hot and I thought for sure that my therapist would call the police, certain that something bad had happened to me, but anyway that situation all worked out.
I’ve done something a little bit different today in that I’ve done this post using voice to text so it’s really like we’re having a conversation, so if my cadence or something seems a little bit different it’s because rather than trying to type it all out I’ve just been talking like I was sharing my week with someone who asked how my week had gone.
Now I will say I went back in and changed some spelling and made sure everything was using the right words, because you know how voice to text works . . .
But yeah, I hope you enjoyed it and I’ll see you next time!
