This week’s limerick challenge is based on the prompt “over the years.” Since April I’ve been pondering this article from Chris Gehrz of the Pietist Schoolman. And so, when the prompt was given, my mind went immediately to history; of course, this would probably happen anyway, given that I, too, teach history.
The History Lesson
I heard someone say o’er the airwaves,
“To teach history is to speak over graves.”
Over the years we must learn
the proper way to discern
the lessons of former decades.
Inspired by the Limerick Weekly Challenge Week 46: Over the Years
Also, please don’t treat your globes this way; I shall weep.
I liked that idea that teaching history is like speaking over graves.

Amazing line indeed. That’s why I’m still meditating on it after 7 months.
