Bob’s Burgers Review: Bleu By You

It’s Sunday morning, and that can only mean one thing: last night, I made and ate a hamburger. Specifically, a burger featured on the hit series Bob’s Burgers. The Bleu By You Burger [S4:E20 “Gene It On”]

About the Episode – Gene lands himself a slot on the Wagstaff Whaler’s cheerleading squad . . . and finds himself at the center of a meddling director’s desire to instigate drama on the cheer squad.

Tina injured herself at cheerleading tryouts, and Louise inveigles herself as Tina’s “interpreter” – successfully securing a date with Jimmy Jr. in the process!

Of course, all good things must come to an end; the only question is: how many will die in the process?

About the Burger– The “Bleu By You” burger contains diced bleu cheese and is served with Swiss chard and a reduction of onions, garlic, Roma tomatoes, and red wine red grape juice. The reduction didn’t work as planned, possibly due to my substitution (I’ll have to research better non-alcoholic substitutes for red wine for future burgers anyway). I chose to serve the burger on a pretzel-style bun.

The Response

Krystal said she thought I did a good job balancing the flavors and that nothing was too overpowering – always a concern with bleu cheese. She also said she could taste the flavors of the reduction, which, since I had difficulties getting to thicken, I had brushed on each burger as it cooked.

I liked the burger, too, though I had some bites almost wholly comprised of melted Bleu cheese and very little meat.

Overall, we have this burger

4 Stars

Come back next week, when we’ll try a new, as-yet-to-be-determined burger!
