Things have changed, but that doesn’t mean they’re any less dangerous.
Our home is no longer considered the primary target of Florence’s landfall. The line has been moved south, below Wilmington. Florence has also weakened from a Category 4 to a Category 2.
That’s the good news.
The bad news is that Florence is still dangerous.
Florence is a huge storm. We’re still going to get high winds and inundated with rain. They’re still predicting a storm surge of anywhere from 9-13 feet in our town. There will be flooding and downed trees and power outages. Even with the downgrade, the winds could destroy roofs and mobile homes.
Florence is still a catastrophe barreling down on the Carolinas. It might not be as bad as it was, but it’s still a monster.
Thank you, everyone who’s been keeping us in mind. We need it.
I’m still glad we left.
Jay, I just saw that New Bern is underwater and help is on the way from FEMA. Maybe you saw it, too. I’m glad you and Krystal evacuated.

Much of downtown and the lower areas are indeed underwater. Our own home is OK as far as we know and has power. Many friends and family are not so lucky.
