It’s a surreal thing to wake up to a missed call from CNN.
Here’s what we know so far:
Florence has hit, and the worst of the wind *should* be over. However, the rains will continue today and through the weekend, possibly even into Monday.
The winds took off the roof of the Piggly Wiggly about a mile from our house.
Right now our friends who stayed are safe. They don’t have power, but they also don’t have flooding.
I wish I could say the same for those who evacuated. Many of them will be returning to severely damaged homes or nothing at all.
We’re on a community FB page, and someone posted pictures from our old neighborhood. It’s under six feet of water. If we hadn’t moved back in January, we’d have lost everything we didn’t take with us.
As it is, we think our new place is OK as of right now.
I responded to a CNN query asking for storm stories and they called me back. I’ve been talking off and on with them since last night, but am of no more use as I evacuated Tuesday and have no current pictures or videos.
Right now we’re not sure when we’ll be able to head back, it really depends on the road conditions at this point, though we’d also like to go back to someplace with power.
I will keep you updated as I know more.
Here are some pictures from the FB group:
just so comforted that you and Krystal are safe

I know. We made the right call. I am convinced that Smokey knew what was coming.

Thanks. As of now our home is ok and has power. Some of our friends and family are not so lucky.
