Bob’s Burgers Review: The Devil’s Avocado-cate

It’s Sunday morning, and that can only mean one thing: last night, I made and ate a hamburger. Specifically, a burger featured on the hit series, Bob’s Burgers.

The Devil’s Avocado-cate Burger [S9:E19 “Long Time Listener, First Time Bob”]

About the Episode

Upset that he didn’t make a local papers “Ten Best Burgers” list, Bob takes the family bowling. At the lanes, he finds his favorite radio DJ working the counter, fired to make way for a computer program. Bob decides to help him get his job back and ends up “softjacking” the radio station.

Back at the restaurant, Bob’s order of sweet potatoes arrives. Bob hates sweet potato fries but is convinced they’re what kept him off the list. Linda decides to make them into pies, and Teddy tries to help. What could go wrong?!?

About the Burger

The name of this burger screamed for deviled avocados. I also decided to serve the burger with lettuce, bacon, and Manchego cheese.

Deviled Avocado Ingredients

  • 2 hard boiled eggs, peeled
  • 2 avocados, halved, peeled, & pitted
  • 1/2 TBS onion powder
  • 1/4 tsp garlic
  • 1/2 tsp lemon juice
  • 1/2 tsp smoked paprika
  • 1/4 tsp cayenne pepper
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp pepper

Mash the eggs and avocado until smooth. Add all other ingredients and combine until well mixed. Adjust salt and pepper to taste.

Burger Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef (approx)
  • 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/4 tsp dried thyme leaves
  • Manchego cheese
  • Bacon
  • Lettuce
  • Salt & pepper to taste

Mix beef, Worcestershire, and thyme and form into patties. Season both sides of patties with salt and pepper.

Cook bacon as desired.

Grill patties, about 6 minutes per side, tenting after flipping. Top with Manchego with about 1 minute to go.

Build the Burger

  • Bottom bun
  • Lettuce
  • Bacon
  • Burger
  • Deviled avocado spread
  • Top bun
  • Serve with fries (if desired)

The Response

The burger was delicious, if slightly messy. Krystal asked if I could make more deviled avocado mix to go with pita chips! I’ll count that as a success

4.5 Stars

Come back next week when we’ll try a new, as-yet-to-be-determined burger!
