Saturday Coffee

Hey there. I hope you’re doing okay.

It’s been an interesting few weeks.

The last thing I posted was around July 4, and to be honest I didn’t know how it would go over.

Surprisingly – to me at least – it went over better than expected. Maybe those who would be most offended missed it and now, with this post, I’m sending them to find it.

Work has been busy as we near the end of summer and fall registration picks up.

We took a short break from D&D to play a two-shot Call of Cthulhu module set in 1922. My character was Dexter “Dex” Fields, reporter. We all survived with our sanity mostly intact.

some quick art I made for our game

I’ve done some cooking as well:

This week I’m missing Smokey. The house is mostly quiet as I clean with the low hum of the dishwasher in the background and pre-2000s country music on the radio. Three years later and I still listen for him to come down the stairs.

Sometime we still hear him upstairs or see his shadowy form. It’s not scary, but it’s not the same, either.

I’ve tried to do some writing, but it’s of a nature that I’m not ready to share yet. It’s helped me, though.

How have you been doing?

  1. It’s interesting you mention seeing or hearing Smokey.

My dog Minnie had very particular things she did, pretty basic dog stuff. One was the way she would move around and get comfortable at my feet in the bed. It was a very familiar feeling. One night, after she passed, I felt that same feeling. Like she was just getting comfy.

Also my dad heard Minnie’s song on the radio the day I brought Pippa home, so yeah.

    Hope you’re doing well!
