Sunday Morning Coffee 7.9.23

It’s been a long time since we sat and chatted over coffee. But the pot is hot and the fans give a good cross-breeze and it’ll be good to get caught up.

This week has both rushed by and seemed incredibly long at the same time. Looking through my camera roll reminded me that so much happened it probably seemed longer than it was a know what I mean?

Monday was a normal workday. It was slow in terms of people walking in as most people’s minds were already on the upcoming holiday, which was good for getting caught up on projects that required minimal distractions.

I came home to find that Krystal had ordered me a Pusheen blind box; I got Orange Juice Pusheen!

I woke up Tuesday, looked out the window, and saw the sun shining. I looked at the weather and saw clear skies at least until early evening. And so, with a sigh, I shaved off my beard.

1783 was calling my name:

It was so hot I didn’t have to wear my jacket.

Scandalous

When it was over I went to the store for food and then went home, determined to stay inside and away from fireworks, crowded sidewalks, and traffic jams.

I may have mixed feelings about The Fourth, but I do enjoy a regional variation of the Traditional Meal: Nathan’s Hot Dogs with Heinz ketchup and French’s yellow mustard and Duke’s mayo along with Mount Olive dill pickles.

Unfortunately, I was not so lucky with the fireworks. The city’s display was delayed and hour or more, and then someone was setting off their own fireworks right outside my door until 12:30 AM. Combine all that with bands of severe weather coming through and we ended up playing one of my least favorite games ever: “Thunder/Gunshot/Firework”

Thanks, I hated it.

Wednesday was difficult. I was frustrated from the night before and really struggling. One of my coworkers noticed and bought me a strawberry lemonade from a nearby cafe in the morning and a Dr Pepper that afternoon.

Also on Wednesday, Campus Life put on an Ice Cream Social. I got strawberry ice cream topped with maraschino cherries, gummy bears, and caramel sauce.

Then I came home to find Krystal had ordered a Tiramisu Pusheen plush she found on sale:

Thursday went much better. Supper Thursday was leftover chicken and rice, which I fried up with some egg and made toast.

Friday was all about Taylor Swift. Cleaning as well, but also Taylor Swift. I think my favorite Vault song is Castles Crumbling (featuring Hayley Williams).

I also discovered that Spotify uses a kind of “audio smoothing” that can distort the intended sound of a recording the same way the smoothing setting on some TVs can make everything look like it was filmed as a daytime soap opera.

Go to Account – Settings – Playback and ensure that “Enable Audio Normalization” is turned OFF.

Friday night I tried something new: making a white sauce pizza. Krystal’s noticed some triggers when it comes to tomatoes, so I made a sauce with butter, flour, milk, Parmesan cheese, and some spices.

I think it turned out great:

Friday was a really good day. After being in a bit of a spot lately, I got the kitchen & living room cleaner than they’ve been since the second weekend in May. I didn’t get as much done as I’d hoped, but I can see and feel the change – – and Smokey the Ghost Cat came down stairs and looked in on me so not a bad day at all.

Saturday I continued cleaning and sorting and made a batch of brownies and attempted my own hand at making a Pimm’s Cup – a summer drink we’d enjoyed a few weekends ago at a friend’s house but there were so many online recipes I just asked the host what she did.

I think it turned out great.

And I really wanted burgers and fries, so I made more Critical Hit Burgers, this time on pretzel buns.
