A Post on a Sunday Evening

Huh. Seems like we made it through another week.

Monday was Jump in a Muddy Puddle Day, but there were no muddy puddles for me to jump in. How rude of the weather to not cooperate.

Tuesday was National Ferret Day, and thanks to Terry Pratchett I gained some familiarity with the sport of ferret-legging. For those that may not know, In ferret-legging, sober contestants tie off their pant legs at the ankles and, sans underwear, place two healthy live ferrets inside, tightening their belts to prevent escape. The winner is the one who lasts the longest.

The sport of champions, that.

Tuesday was also interesting because a problem with our local Verizon network meant that no one with Verizon or Verizon-adjacent service had cell service in our building, and our computer system requires two factor authentication which cannot be completed via email. Fun times were NOT had by all as at least four people were effectively locked out of the software necessary to do their jobs thanks to the dreaded SOL indicator. of course we could connect to our company WiFi, but that is spotty at best and only half of us could get on. Whatever the issue was, Verizon resolved it by 4:30.

I must say that in the grand scheme of things, I was glad it was a Verizon issue because last fall I had an SOS error due to a broken antenna and I do not have the money to replace a phone right now.

Wednesday was National Film Score Day. Do you have a favorite score? My whole-film favorite would have to be Jurassic Park, but if we can also include Original Song, I’d like to add “It’s Terror Time Again” from Scooby Doo on Zombie Island. I asked folks on my other social media to chime in and they responded:

  • John Wick
  • Dune
  • The Italian Job
  • How to Train Your Dragon
  • Black Panther
  • Tron
  • Lord of the Rings
  • Last of the Mohicans
  • Star Wars
  • Raiders of the Lost Ark
  • Titanic
  • Braveheart
  • Glory
  • Legends of the Fall
  • The Perfect Storm

Wednesday also saw us once again lose cell coverage in the middle of the day. Funny, that.

Thursday was National Burrito Day. Author John Scalzi is known for unique burritos (among other things), but what’s YOUR favorite kind of burrito? I like chorizo, and a local place does one called the Diablo.

Online, I also said “and if you are John Scalzi reading this, hello! Is there a memorable burrito you’ve made?” AND HE REPLIED TO ME! You can read about that burrito over on his blog in a post titled “Today in ‘I Regret Nothing’”

Krystal had a tech rehearsal for a show and then wanted ramen and so I did not have burritos and instead made Spaghetti-Os to have with bread and butter and tortilla chips.

On Friday our director of financial services complimented my hair, asked how long I’d been growing it out, and mentioned she thought I “have a cute bob going on” so if you need me I’ll be here feeling slightly accepted in the workplace . . .

But also on Friday I went to pick up some food from Cookout and noticed a truck with a farm name on it. I want to go on the record and say that if you’re in the South – or anywhere, really – and you name your farm Triple K Farms, you are either incredibly ignorant or sending a very specific message.

Friday evening I was getting ready for D&D. Last session ended with PC death and the survivors stumbling into Borovia. What would tonight bring? I didn’’t know but I’d got my headband:

As it turns out, it was an RP-only night with opportunities for our characters to deal with their grief as well as more fully introduce a new Player Character. As always, you can read about it on our Wikia!

The aerial acrobatic troupe of the show my wife stage managed got her flowers on both opening and closing nights:

Last night I made chicken with peppers and onions and yellow rice. I don’t know if I recall what exactly I made the marinade with. I know I put in olive oil and soy sauce and Nature’s Seasoning and Dijon mustard and salt and pepper. I put in some white wine in the rice and used it to help sauté th peppers and onions. Krystal declared it delicious.

Today I cleaned in the kitchen while finishing The Magnus Archives & I don’t know if I’m feeling let down that the original storyline is over or actually let down by the finale.

I’m glad The Admiral survived, sad Daisy didn’t, and would like to definitively know what happened to Simon Fairchild. I’m happy with Gertrude’s arc, and even Martin’s, but John’s final story didn’t sit quite right with me. But then again, I doubt I could come up with anything better. It may, in fact, be the best ending even if I don’t like it.

And that’s okay. I’m not soured by the ending or anything and next weekend look forward to starting The Magnus Protocol, set twenty or twenty-five years after the original story.

And now I’ve watched the first three John Wick movies as I’ve typed up my D&D notes and this blog post and am enjoying some pizza while starting a rewatch of American Gods.

What have you been up to?
