Happy Sunday, everyone! It’s been a while but I’m here and having a great day: the sun is shining and the windows are open for a breeze; the living room and the kitchen are both clean; I’ve got a cranberry limeade from Sonic and a bowl of crunchy snacks. So, let’s get caught up!
The last few weeks have been busy as we finished up our production of The Laramie Project. I took a day or two off to let go of it mentally, and then I started feeling physically unwell in the form of a sporadic yet persistent cough. And that was it: no fever or nausea or sinus drainage or anything, just a cough that would go away for hours on end and then I’d spend fifteen minutes hardly able to catch my breath. But since this last Wednesday I’ve felt better on that front.
I must say that I didn’t expect our production to have the impact that it did, but for what it had I am grateful. Folks are still talking about it and I’ve even been recognized by the cashier at the grocery store. That’s just something I wasn’t prepared for, and doubly so as it’s been almost a month since they saw it.

Work has been going well if consistently busy – and that’s a good thing, too! I came back from my day off to find I’d been assigned to several committees dealing with different facets of a long-term project, so I must be doing something right when it comes to my workplace responsibilities. It’s also given me the opportunity to work with various folks in other departments that I would not normally interact with, and it’s always good to make those connections.
I am so happy that the weather has changed to be just a little cooler. It’s still not as consistently cool as I’d like (I’d like more days in the high 50s and low 60s) but after the triple digits of summer I’ll take what I can get. I also like it because it means I can wear my fall clothing. As one of my friends said recently:
Most people don’t really look good in orange because it washed them out, but then bam, here comes Jay rocking it.
And not only did that boost my confidence when I really needed it (thanks to a panic attack brought on by noise and lights) but I’ve also been choosing to wear more orange (as if I needed a reason, haha)

I’ve also been watching a lot of comfort shows: Gravity Falls, Mystery Inc, Over the Garden Wall – – things like that. Well yesterday Krystal and I went to a near-ish comic convention. It was about two hours way and as usual she got the tickets and gave me some options for cosplay – I chose Mable and Dipper Pines from Gravity Falls.
What she didn’t tell me was that Roberto Rodriguez – who was an animator on Gravity Falls and Mystery Inc (and KPop Demon Hunters, too) – would be there. He graciously talked to me after Krystal had to literally point out who he was (since I wasn’t wearing glasses with my cosplay) and I came away with a few signed posters!

Then last night after we got back into town we went down to the theatre for the performance of their 24-Hour Theatre Project. At 7:30 the night before, six volunteer writers were given random topics and genres and they had about 10 hours to write a 10-15 minute scene. At 6:30 (or so) the following morning, the writers met with the directors, and at 7:30 auditions began to cast and rehearse the scenes with the curtain rising on the performances at 7:30 in the evening. Many of our friends were involved in every aspect of the project and we were thrilled to see them succeed so marvelously. Perhaps next year some participation may be possible . . .

Afterwards we went out for a bit with our friends, and I had a Polaroid taken in a dark alley that makes me look like a Hogarth engraving but I was one hundred percent totally sober. I’m not upset with how it turned out; I think it’s great – it’s just not what folks were expecting, lol.

Fall weather also means fall foods and in addition to making my own fall spice blend for coffees and pies and the like, I’ve also enjoyed soups and spaghetti with sauce and even did some schnitzel but I forgot to take a photo of that.

I think that brings us all up to speed. I thought there would be more but I’ve gone through all my photos and messages and such and I thinks that’s all there is. But that’s okay – let’s share this fall day:
What have you been up to?
