Snowcation Ending

I know it’s late but that’s okay; we’re wringing every last second of joy out of today. Pull up and chair and I’ll pour the drinks.

There’s really not a whole lot I have to say about this last week. From Monday through Thursday we were snowed-and-iced in at home. The storm was almost exactly as predicted, and we ended up with between 9 and 17 inches – really: I measured about 9 inches out the back door and close to 17 inches out my front door. The official number reported by the city was 12.5, but I know some people just a few miles away got almost two feet, and downtown (where they usually measure hurricane storm surge) they measured four-foot-drifts! And since the town just doesn’t have the infrastructure to deal with this amount of snow, we were pretty much on our own until one of the three plows made it’s way to us and then wait again for the ice to melt so we could even get out of our driveways.

So I passed the days listening to podcasts and and watching movies and working on some small projects and generally living (albeit briefly) like the hibernating animal we all would like to be in the winter months.

We did meet up with our neighbor (the one who inspired the short story) and went walking (as best we could) and I took over some chorizo and tomato rice one night.

You can see pictures of the snow in my post from last week, but here’s a comparison of where we were on Monday compared to Friday:

The snow stuck around until Wednesday, when another winter storm moved through. Up until the last minute they were saying they couldn’t really predict what kind of precipitation would fall, but in the end it was freezing rain. This washed most of the snow away while also doing nothing to improve travel conditions – and even now, some parking lots at various businesses are slick with ice as the snow piles melt and the water refreezes.

We did have D&D on Wednesday night, and one of the projects I set for myself this week was getting caught up on my character’s wikia pages.

Not only did I update their pages, but I also reached out to a couple of artists to do art for Leaf and K2. I’ve booked K2’s artist and I’m still waiting to hear back from the artist about Leaf.

Huzzah for paying real people to make real art!

And not only that, but I also got an alert from my Venmo account that almost two months ago someone sent me money for my tattoos and I never transferred it. To be honest, I didn’t see the gift, but I certainly saw it today, and in retroactively helping to pay for my birthday tattoos, it will also help pay for this new art!

Just in case you forgot, here’s what I got back in December:

So anyway, on Thursday while it was raining I made it out to the store to get things like toilet paper and dish detergent before coming back and getting iced in again through Friday and then Saturday I was able to make it out to the grocery stores like usual.

And that brings us to today, where I’ve been cleaning and sorting and taking things to the dumpster now that I can walk there easily and I made Spaghetti-Os for lunch and I’m goin got be making Superb Owl burgers for supper tonight.

I do not follow American football or sports in general so today has been a day of seeing folks talk about things I do not understand and do not necessarily care to know about.

I do care about the Superb Owl, though:

Here’s how those burgers turned out, by the way:

And now I’m enjoying some chocolate-topped ice cream and elderflower tonic water before bed:

How have you been? What have you been up to?
