Big Boat Energy

Just when you thought it was safe to go back online, I looked up and realized itโ€™s been a while since I last wrote something here. So pull up a chair and get yourself a drink (please leave my strawberry rhubarb soda alone) and letโ€™s chat about whatโ€™s been happening.

The thing is, I really wanted to write.

Almost every day I thought, โ€œIโ€™ll do it tomorrow,โ€ and then tomorrow became next week, and next week became next month, and eventually my brain decided that because Iโ€™d missed so many weeks, nothing less than a Complete and Comprehensive History of Everything That Has Happened Since the Last Post would suffice.

As it turns out, thatโ€™s a fantastic way to write absolutely nothing.

So as Iโ€™ve done before, I opened my camera roll and scrolled through social media in hopes of jogging my memory, and hereโ€™s what I recovered:

I got my official name tag and business cards for my new position at work. Yay me.

I spent nine days dogsitting at the end of June and beginning of July, including over the July 4th holiday.

On one of our evening walks Luna saw a rabbit and crouched down like she was going to run after it. I told her no, and she stopped and looked at me and I said โ€œwe donโ€™t chase things that arenโ€™t in our own yardโ€ and she got the saddest look of betrayal on her face and turned and started walking down the rest of the street ๐Ÿ˜†

Between that, rainstorms, and a pair of geese that seemed personally offended by my presence on the sidewalk, it was an eventful stretch of days.

Walking with Luna also got me walking again, with the long-term goal of getting back to running. Iโ€™m trying very hard not to compare myself to where I used to be and instead appreciate where I am now.

My success in that regard is quite varied.

One project I managed to finish was writing all thirty Pride prompts for Pride Month.

Some days were harder than others, but I kept at it until there werenโ€™t any prompts left to write. The positive feedback people shared meant a lot and reminded me why I decided to try the prompts in the first place.

I just want to tell you how much I have loved your pride prompt posts! Thank you for sharing so much and for being open and honest about your journey. It has meant a lot to me and has been educational as well! ๐Ÿ’›

The Prompts have helped me be more compassionate and understanding of the non-binary community. You are so very brave to post such open-mindness in a primarily closed-minded society!

Thank you๐Ÿ’–

You have opened my mind with your honesty!

Maybe I should share those Prompts here?

With a Heat Dome firmly upon us, Iโ€™ve spent a significant amount of time watching Archer, making it through seasons 6โ€“12. It really lost something after Jessica Walterโ€™s death, and Iโ€™m honestly not sure whether I should bother finishing the series.

I spent even more screen time on July 3 when Krystal and I went out for supper at a local cafe and then went to see Jaws on the big screen at the civic theatre. Naturally, we also came home with a shark plush.

His name is BB.

As in, โ€œYouโ€™re gonna need a bigger boat.โ€

His naming was a joint effort, and I regret nothing.

The D&D campaigns continue to be excellent, although Iโ€™m now several sessions behind on writing up my notes. Trust me when I say exciting things are happening.

The kitchen has also been busy. I made chicken pot pie with Bojangles biscuits instead of a traditional crust, which I can confidently recommend as an excellent decision, and today I made a fresh batch of spaghetti sauce thatโ€™s made the whole house smell wonderful.

This past week the internet went out at work early one afternoon, which made it difficult to do the entirety of my work. We were told that if it wasnโ€™t back by 3:00, we could all go home.

At 2:58, everything came back on.

Sometimes the universe has a sense of humor that I do not find funny.

I ended up leaving about half an hour early anyway.

Meanwhile, people keep talking about how this World Cup is one of the most exciting tournaments ever, and of course I have opinions.

Germany being knocked out by the referees (with the assistance of Paraguay) still doesnโ€™t sit right with me, and with France, Spain, England, and Argentina all making the quarterfinals, I really donโ€™t have a team Iโ€™m excited to cheer for anymore. At this point I donโ€™t care who wins so long as Argentina loses.

As the saying goes, โ€œIf Messi has no haters, it means Iโ€™m dead,โ€ or something like that.

Oh, and then there was one morning when I very nearly poured mustard into my tea instead of lemon juice.

Thankfully, the key word is โ€œalmost.โ€

Finally, August is getting closer, which means the My Chemical Romance concert is getting closer, which means I am discovering that finding a T-shirt is somehow much harder than it should be. So many of the custom designs online either feel like recycled versions of each other or obvious AI slop. I know exactly the sort of shirt I want; I just havenโ€™t found it yet (nor am I confident enough to make it myself).

So, thatโ€™s been my life.

What about you?
