So here it is on a Sunday afternoon and I may have taken a much longer nap than I intended but I’m awake now (or a reasonable facsimile of awake) and I may need a coffee but I’m game for a chat if you are.
The calendar may say it’s still summer but my soul lives in a constant state of autumn and it’s hard not to live as if the -ber months are already here.
For one, summer hours at work are officially over, and this was my last regular long weekend until next summer. I have mixed feelings about that. I’ll never not say no to a Friday off, but those 3 pm Wednesdays when there’s still another 2.5 hours to go and you’re looking down the barrel of another ten hour day on Thursday . . . it’s a reminder that everything comes with a price.
For two, our local Spirit Halloween opened today. We went with a friend and were maybe in the first ten people in the doors. This was mainly a scouting mission to see what we could see, knowing that more will be put out over the next few days and weeks, but we also know that some things are hard to come by if you don’t get them early.

I got a new Scooby Doo lanyard, and was pleased to see that they’ve added Thorn as an officially licensed costume. She’s no Dusk, but I’m glad to see Hex Girls representation. I may have stared in joyful awe long enough for it to be noticeable.
I also have to say that you know the economy is bad when even zebras have to pimp themselves out.

Then we went out for lunch and I had cheesesteak and Orangeade and it was good and filling and when we came home I decided to close my eyes for a few minutes and here we are maybe five hours later . . .
Yesterday was the reveal of the second of our local community theatre’s 2027 and they had a tiki-themed reception. I purchased two raffle tickets but did not win any of the prizes.
I did, however, email the director of the theatre about my desire to write for October’s 24-Hour Theatre Project, so we’ll see what happens – and for those that don’t know, the Project is exactly as it sounds: a short scene play goes from writing prompt to staged production in 24 hours.
So between the two theatres in town we have:
- POTUS
- Matilda Jr.
- The Full Monty
- Sky Doomer (Saax Bradbury show, written by local teens)
- Songs We’ll Never Sing (original show with reverse-gender popular Broadway songs)
- Fat Ham
- Mean Girls
- Anything Goes
- Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom
- A Chorus Line
- Heathers
- The Moors
- HadesTown (Teen Edition)
- Brigadoon
(I took a break here to watch the Beacons are Lit scene from Return of the King. Could you tell?)
Anyway there’s a lot of shows I want to see, but only one role I want to audition for: the role of The Mastiff in The Moors. We’ll see what happens.
I went thrifting looking for a coat rack with umbrella stand for my office. I didn’t find one, but I did find a copy of the animated film Hellboy: Blood and Iron. I also found a brass frog for Krystal.
It was a good week at work. The hummingbirds come and go and I’m not sure how many there are but there’s at least three since that’s how many I’ve seen in proximity to one another at the same time. I also made progress on quite a few projects – huzzah!
For what seemed like such a busy week it seems there also isn’t a whole lot more to day, so I’ll leave you with a few photos from the week:

Until next time!
