Sunday Snapshots

I accomplished two things this week:

First, I helped fix the drainage at the school:

Second, I salvaged some old books from the dumpster:

Oh, and K’s plans got moved to this week. You know what that means:

For the record, I also got Wal-Mart brand Ginger Ale like I said I would last weekend.

What about the milkshake? For a whole 40ยข more, I bought this carton of ice cream! w00t!

Hey, before you go, would you mind giving me your opinion?

Facebook – where I share news stories, articles from other blogs, and various and sundry miscellany that happens to catch my eye. It’s stuff you won’t see here! Well, mostly.

Monday Morning Grievance: Oversleeping

It’s Monday and I haven’t had my coffee.

Monday Morning Grievances Logo 1

I overslept today.

I had such good intentions, too.

I was going to get up and write this blog post.

Then, I’d make some coffee and read for a bit.

After that, I’d go pay some bills.

All before heading out to the school to start organizing my classroom for next term, which starts in two weeks.

Now, though, I’ve overslept by an hour and a half.

I can’t procrastinate on the bills.

I shouldn’t put off working in my classroom.

I’ve got to have my coffee if I’m going to be halfway pleasant today.

The real question is

Do I have time to read, or must I wait ’til tonight?

What annoys you?

Sunday Snapshots

What did I do this week?

Well . . .

I helped Krystal participate in the Greatest International Scavenger Hunt the Word has Ever Seen by

showing her idea of love

using cat tails as mustaches

no cats were harmed in the creation of this project

creating a portrait of Robert Downey, Jr. / Ironman out of salt & pepper

holding Death’s funeral

writing a short story with the letters of elemental abbreviations as found on the Periodic Table

taping an End of the World message

proving no man is an island

recreating a Roadrunner cartoon

in the style of a Sam Shepherd play

in the style of Michael Bay

throwing a conspiracy theorist party

making a trailer for a horror flick called X is for Xylophone

designing furniture from recycled materials found outside

playing croquet on the lawn of an historic site

while dressed as zombies

recreating a national landmark with the food in our pantry

There might have been a few things I missed.

However, since these actions were part of competition, I can’t show you any pictures . . . yet.

So, what can I show you?

My package arrived from Germany:

Er Ist Wieder Da Package

I made two more apple pies:

I just couldn’t let my leftover apples from the last ones go to waste, you know?

My submission for Three Line Thursday earned an Honorable Mention:

My plans changed for Saturday and I didn’t get Little Caesar’s pizza nor did I get a milkshake. But we did order pizza Friday night and – look! – there’s Wal-Mart brand Ginger Ale just like I claimed:

My Own Devices

When the cat’s away the mice will get some cleaning done, maybe listen to a bit of NPR and a few classical pieces, and be otherwise productive play.

Smokey 27 July 2015

Last week, Ginjuh over at Ginger’s Grocery admitted her somewhat guilty pleasures when left to her own devices.

This week, I’m in the same predicament – sort of.

K’s schedule and mine are off-synch for a few days; I’ll be at home while she’s at work.

Then, she may or may not go out of town most of the day Saturday.

I always start with best intentions:

Do the Laundry

Do the Dishes

Bake a Pie

Work on Lesson Plans

Get some Groceries

Inevitably I fall foul of my baser nature:

Eat All the Junk Food

Watch all the Netflix

Read all the Books

Really though, is this last one so bad?

MST3K shirt detail

Take this weekend; I already know how it will pan out.

She’ll leave early in the morning; I’ll get up with her.

When she leaves, I’ll sit down to do some lesson plans.

I might actually start planning after an hour or so – you know, once I’ve gotten caught up on Facebook and Twitter and Instagram and WordPress and my email.

Around lunchtime I’ll go and get something to eat – most likely a Little Caesar’s Hot-N-Ready Pepperoni and a liter of Wal-Mart brand Ginger Ale.

Don’t judge me, I have a coupon for free breadsticks.

Little Caesars Mascot

However, I can’t exactly work on school stuff with all the grease around, right?

I’ll just watch something while I eat.

and watch

and watch

and watch

Until it’s time for supper, in which case hey, I have half a pizza left over from lunch; no sense in letting it go to waste.

But you know, all that awful junk food is starting to upset my stomach.

You know what I’d like about now? A milkshake.

And guess what? It’s after 8:00, so milkshakes are half-price at Sonic!

Shall I get my normal Banana Cream Pie or shall I be a bit more . . . adventurous?

Check back on Sunday to find out what happened!

Monday Morning Grievance: Summer Colds

It’s Monday and I haven’t had my coffee.

Monday Morning Grievances Logo 1

Colds are inconvenient at the best of times. We expect colds in winter; after all, they’re called colds, not hots. Somehow, colds seem worse in warm weather. I mean, come on already.

It’s 75 oF [ 24 oC]

I’ve just taken the hottest shower I can stand

I’m wearing two pairs of sweatpants, alpaca wool socks, a long-sleeved thermal running shirt, a sweatshirt, and a hoodie

I’m buried under 2 comforters and two blankets

I still can’t get warm

Making things even more intolerable, I’m technically on vacation.

Blargh

Sunday Snapshots

As you might remember, my folks visited this week.

Saturday

They arrived Saturday afternoon and wanted to go out to dinner.

Mom chose Red Robin (Yum!); so we piled into the van and away we went.

Halfway there I realized I was still in my work shirt.

Luckily, Red Robin is attached to the mall, and one of the stores had a sale.

Sunday

On the way out the door for Sunday church, Mom realized that Dad and I dressed very similarly:

As we were close to the beach, we visited Fort Macon and Atlantic Beach between the morning and evening services.

First up, Fort Macon:

As I wandered around looking for unique architectural details, I noticed something about the springer.

Then, it was on to the beach!

ย And onto the beach, as it were.

That evening, we were back at church. What luck it was a fellowship night!

Monday

We went shopping for groceries to make apple pie.

Dad also cleaned our coffee pots. He did a good job, even if I did have to stop him from trying to take apart the Keurig.

Tuesday

We visited the Farmer’s Market and Tryon Palace

I made a Venison Roast, which I didn’t take a picture of; however, we did have apple pie and vanilla ice cream for desert:

Wednesday

Mom and Dad left Wednesday morning, but not before we ate breakfast at Baker’s Kitchen

Thursday – Saturday

Soon after they left, I developed all the symptoms of a simply wonderful summer cold.

So, I used the time to catch up on my TBR:
