How about some high fantasy this time?
His transformation incomplete, he sank to his knees, exhausted. With one talon extended, he scratched in the sand: “I am still a man.” The pain began again and he cried out in agony as the rest of the talons erupted from his fingers.

Jay – I added a link on my blog too https://kakingsbury.wordpress.com/2015/09/16/wicked-word-wednesday/ and I’ve shared it on The Commons for Writing 101 and will hope for a better response than last week.

Her talons gleamed in the sunlight. A warning for what was to come as she slowly sat back in her seat, a cheshire grin stealing over her face. She knew what she had to do now. It was as clear as day.
Thank you so much for this challenge. I love coming back week after week to flex my writing muscles 😉

Get your talons off of me – no seriously, this looks like fun. Gotta scratch around a bit and then return with captured thought in claw.

Interesting Endeavor. I shall post my obtuse Haiku as follows.
Escape the Fear
The key connected
Pressed the talon, releasing
The bolt to freedom.

An eagle soared above the glittering lake, head tilted slightly to better spot his prey. A flash of silver in the water below – he dove, his wings barely brushing the surface as his talons snatched the squirming fish from among its brothers.

I heard it first – the shrill shriek of the hawk overhead, then the whoosh of wings descending. Its talons grasped at my fluffy tail as I dove into the safety of my burrow at the base of the sycamore tree. Close call!
