In the Morning

Sunrise

Ding dong, dong ding
Hear the chimes ring
From the high tower
Hark to the hour

Roll over and turn off the alarm.

Westminster chimes, really?

Since when did they wake up anyone?

Oh well. Time to get up.

Head to the bathroom for morning ablutions

No shaving nicks – huzzah!

Breakfast of cereal and toast: raisin bran and rye.

Back to the bedroom to decide what to wear.

Will anyone notice yesterday’s clothes?

Walk out the door to

Wait. What?

Dress slacks and a t-shirt?

Inside, there’s cereal on the floor and bread in the microwave.

Touching a cheek to find shaving cream.

The clock reads 2:15 AM.

Sleepwalking again.

Blogging 201: Hub, Buddy, & Poll Walk Into A Bar

Sounds like the beginning to a bad joke, doesn’t it?

In reality, I’m catching up on three Blogging 201 assignments.

Make Your Blog a Hub

Create a page or section on your blog to display links to your online presence elsewhere, and make sure your other presences reflect the brand you’re developing on your blog.

Based on previous feedback, my Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram followers seem pleased.

If you aren’t following me, check me out!

[Seriously, check out those social media icons in the sidebar.]

Since it’s come up before, let me clarify that

The Facebook page is not my personal page. In addition to blog posts, I also share others’ blogs and various and sundry ephemera I find online.

The Twitter and Instagram feeds are my personal feeds and I don’t mind others following my adventures on those sites.

The Buddy System

Find a blogging buddy.

If appropriate, plan to publish guest posts on one another’s blogs.

Apparently, the duties of a Blogging Buddy can include any or all of the following:

Give Feedback

Promote Each Others’ Blogs & Posts

Provide Moral Support

Guest Post [When Appropriate and/or Invited]

So, who wants to be my Blogging Buddy?

Give ‘Em What They Want, II

Create a poll and/or a survey to collect feedback from your readers on your site and its content.

This one is easy: using the handy dandy poll I’ve created, select the type of posts you most enjoy.

Select all that apply!

Weekly Photo Challenge: Up Close

I struggled with this week’s Up Close challenge. After all, my phone is my camera.

I wanted to take a picture of a sliced dragon’s egg cucumber; unfortunately, said cucumber could not be photographed.

So said the rules of Tryon Palace Historic Sites and Gardens:

Photography by visitors is permitted in the gardens and in the Pepsi Family Center, but not inside galleries or historic buildings.

So, I found myself drawn to my old standbys: my cat and bricks.

Four Thoughts on a Quiet Wednesday Afternoon

Wednesday Reverse TypePhoto Credit: funnydam.com

After two long weeks of hustle and bustle, I find myself in my air-conditioned living room facing a quiet afternoon with nothing important to do.

I don’t even have a reason to procrastinate.

Thought 1: A Poem

Today the house stands still
and empty; the only sound:
the gentle hum of fans.

After two long weeks, shrill
noises cease, and I drown
in the void with no plans.

I will sit here and chill
with my books in a mound,
holding tomes in my hands.

Thought 2: Culture

There’s no one home but me and the cat.
Time to sing along with German opera!

Zu Hilfe! Zu Hilfe! Zu Hilfe!

Thought 3: More Culture

Hey! I can get caught up with my TBR.
Then, I can write some book reviews.

Though 4: Probable Reality

I wonder what’s on Netflix?

Hootenanny. Shindig. Hoedown. Whatever.

Today in Blogging 201 I’m supposed to come up with an event.

I have absolutely no idea what kind of event I’d run.

I do know I’d either run or culminate on Wednesday or Saturday.

I’d want it to appeal to a wide range of people.

Stay tuned . . . but don’t hold your breath.

Teaser Tuesday: The Last Hero

In addition to my parents visiting this week, the wheel of time turned on its axis to

Teaser TuesdayJust in case you don’t know, Teaser Tuesday is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by A Daily Rhythm. Anyone can play along! All you have to do is grab the book you’re currently reading, open to a random page and share a few sentences from that page. But make sure you don’t share any spoilers!*

*I wish I could take credit for this introduction, but I shamelessly stole it from Heather over at bitsnbooks. To help me make amends, you should go check out her blog.

This week I’m reading The Last Hero: A Discworld Fable by Terry Pratchett.

I’m excited to read this; I’ve looked for it for several years.

I finally found a copy on Amazon at the same time I possessed money to spend.

I already leafed through it, amazed at Paul Kidby’s illustrations.

The Truly Random Number Generator sends us to page 112:

'What?' said Rincewind, perplexed at the sudden
     subject of fruit.

I'd just started eating an apple, and I just rested
it in the air . . . and it's gone.

The ship creaked in the glaring sunlight.

And an apple core came tumbling gently
     through the air.

In Retrospect

This Teaser Tuesday was prepared in advance of a busy week.

Check back next week for a book review of Last Will by Bryn Greenwood.
